BIOGAS3 project is being developed by a consortium of companies and research centers:

AINIA CENTRO TECNOLÓGICO

AINIA is a Spanish non-profit technological centre formed by companies in the food manufacturing sector and related industries (more than 700 food companies as active members), whose objective is the promotion of innovation and technological development in the agro-food sector. AINIA has a very strong expertise in R&D, Technical Assistance; Analysis; Training and Technology Transfer. During the last year near 200 R&D projects (national and international) were developed, as well as a high number of consulting and training activities.

AINIA is a leading technology centre in the area of Anaerobic Digestion (biogas/biomethane) of agricultural organic waste. Main research areas are: development of new pre-treatments, validation of new substrates, reduction of biological risks, control and modelling of the anaerobic process, microbiological characterization of the anaerobic fermentation by means of molecular biological tools (PCR/DGGE). AINIA has available a highly qualified experimental infrastructure for anaerobic digestion research. In particular, a biomethanation unit at semi-industrial scale composed of 15 pilot biodigesters to carry out tests for evaluating biogas productivity and composition, optimal substrates mixture, best operational parameters and the quality of the digestate, among other parameters. It boasts a biomethanation unit at laboratory scale composed by 72 biodigesters to carry out maximum biogas potential tests (MBP) by means of the VDI 4630 standard.

The Spanish Food and Drink Industry Federation (FIAB) was created in 1977 to represent, through a single organisation and a single voice, the Spanish industry of food and drinks, the first industrial sector of our country. Presently, it encompasses 47 sector associations representing nearly 90% of the sector’s turnover.
Its main activity is informing the sector about news that might affect their performance and representing their interests before different administration and decision-making bodies at national, European and international level.
Its activity focuses on the following areas: internationalisation, innovation and technological development, legislation and food safety, agricultural policy, environment, nutrition, training, taxes and communication, always aiming at improving the industry’s competitiveness.
In order to be able to represent the industry’s interests in the EU sphere, since 1983 FIAB maintains a permanent delegation in Brussels. Likewise, since 1986 it is a full member of the Confederation of the Food and Drink Industries of the EU (CIAA), a business sector organization of European scope.

IrBEA was formed in 1999 to promote bioenergy in Ireland, from the beginning Anaerobic Digestion has been a core area for the association. IrBEA has a dedicated Anaerobic Digestion Subgroup.
IrBEA’s A.D. work can be categorized in a number of key areas:
1.  Promotion of the benefits of anaerobic digestion from energy security to recycling of organic materials.
2. Lobbying for a better legislative and operational environment for AD development, e.g. Renewable Energy Feed In Tariffs, Animal By-Products Regulations, Planning, Environmental Permits/ licensing.
3. IrBEA has run a number of training courses and workshops for AD developers and also for members of the planning authorities to ensure planners better understand the AD process.

Tecnoalimenti was funded in 1981 on Italian Research Ministry volunteer for promoting, co-ordinating and executing industrial research in agri-food sector, Tecnoalimenti is a SME juridically established as a non-profit research consortium of 28 food sector industries and one financial institution, San Paolo IMI, as trustee of ministerial funds. Its member industries account for 12% of Italian food sales. In 30 years of activity, the organisation acquired high level skills in: (i) research project set-up and management, (ii) carrying out scientific studies on food chains, applicability and eco-compatibility of research results, cost-benefits of new processes and interpretation of data and (iii) dissemination activities at national and international level through its wide industrial network.

Representing a unique Italian industrial platform which integrates horizontally and vertically the main industrial players of the food chain, Tecnoalimenti is often required to play also the role of stakeholder of the agro-food industry. Tecnoalimenti has a wide experience in networking industries (large and SMEs) for research activities, due to its institutional function of bridging industry and research players. Further, Tecnoalimenti participated/participates to food chain projects with a specific role of carrying out studies, training activities, steering and animating Industrial Platforms, thanks to its wide experience in approaching food SMEs (e.g. IP-Healthgrain, IP-Traceback, CP-Baseline). Tecnoalimenti has acquired skills in technological transfer of research results towards agro-food industries, managing IPR issues and commercial issues linked with royalties. Active member of the Italian Food for Life ETP, SerIT and member of EARTO.
